Executive Summary

A dairy format without rival, drawn from the deep.

Cetacean Milk Co. is a pioneering marine-agricultural enterprise stationed on Protection Island, BC. We specialize in the ethical husbandry, care, and milk extraction of Right Whales (Eubalaena glacialis), pastured in the pristine deep-water fjords of Northern British Columbia — our primary sanctuary pens.

Whale milk contains an astonishing 30% to 50% milk fat: a culinary density comparable to thick, spreadable cream straight from the harvest. Our proprietary vacuum extraction and refinement methods neutralize volatile oceanic compounds while preserving the milk's natural salinity and long, creamy finish.

Extracting heavy cream safely from deep-water mammals requires world-class robotic engineering. Our Protection Island research labs are currently securing key patents for our non-invasive systems.

The design builds on our SMRD-10 prototype of 2023, whose multi-arm manipulator and teat-seeking attachment unit first validated soft-touch extraction at depth. Its successor, the Aquatact-8000™, is an autonomous underwater milking drone designed to sync dynamically with a swimming whale. Low-frequency hydro-acoustic positioning and smart thrusters align the unit gently with a maternal whale's mammary slits, delivering a completely stress-free, warm-water massage and suction sequence through a medical-grade, heated silicone cup.

Since 1994 · The House Archive

From herring barrels to whale cream.

Long before the first whale was milked, the islands of Nanaimo harbour were famous for their herring. At the turn of the last century, salteries lined these shores, and the silver harvest left by the schooner-load for tables across the Pacific.

On Protection Island, the children of Happy Land — the island's beloved amusement grounds — earned their pocket money between rides by salting herring in barrels, a rite of passage remembered fondly in the harbour to this day. It is in that spirit of cheerful, briny industry that Cetacean Milk Co. was founded in 1994 as a modest "quality whale dairy."

Future Technologies Division

Beyond the net.

Our first farms were fenced with surplus submarine nets from the Second World War — effective, but hardly hospitable. As the herd grew, we moved to a far gentler medium: curtains of air bubbles across each fjord mouth. The final step dispenses with barriers altogether. Our Future Technologies Division is developing a direct neural interface for humane, barrier-free herd management across open fjord systems.

In Development · Target 2029

The NeuroPod™ Cortical Interface

A rice-grain-sized implant, placed during a routine wellness dive, that delivers gentle geofencing cues directly to the whale's navigational cortex. Boundaries become a feeling, not a fence — each whale simply prefers to stay home.

The result: full retirement of the bubble curtains, a dramatically simplified husbandry stack, and pod-wide recall to the milking bay at the press of a single button in xHerd™, our herd operating system.

  • Whisper-guidance — sub-perceptual nudges replace the bubble curtain at the fjord mouth, restoring the natural soundscape.
  • One-button recall — the entire pod returns for harvest in under 40 minutes, in formation.
  • Contentment telemetry — live mood, lactation, and krill-craving analytics streamed to Protection Island HQ.
  • Over-the-water updates — firmware delivered while the herd sleeps, vertically, as whales do.
  • Pending review by our independent Cetacean Ethics Board (two marine biologists, one philosopher, one very senior whale).

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers from the fjord.

How are the whales safely managed? +

Geography does most of the work — our fjords are walled by mountains on three sides, so only the mouth needs guarding. Our first farms used surplus submarine nets from the Second World War; since 2019, a far gentler curtain of air bubbles has kept the pod secure from open-ocean hazards and marine traffic, without cages of any kind. From 2029, our NeuroPod™ cortical interface is expected to retire barriers entirely.

Does the milk taste fishy? +

No. Our proprietary centrifugal vacuum refinement process at the Protection Island facility removes fishy-tasting volatile organic compounds (such as trimethylamine), leaving a rich, clean, naturally salted dairy taste.

How does transport from Protection Island work? +

Protection Island is a vehicle-free sanctuary, so all shipments travel by electric, solar-charged water barge to our cold-chain fulfillment terminal in Nanaimo for global air export.

Are you raising capital? +

Yes. We are raising a USD $50M growth round to scale the herd, the Aquatact™ fleet, and the NeuroPod™ program. Qualified investors may review the highlights on our Investors page.
